![]() ![]() ![]() For this month’s blog, we’re going to be sharing tips to help women minimize the pain that comes along with this chronic condition.Īs if dealing with endometriosis pain was not enough, anxiety, depression and stress like to squeeze their way into the situation. In September, we shared an overview of endometriosis and all it entails. This blog is part of a series we’re doing on endometriosis, which affects 1 in 10 women according to The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). ![]() At Women’s Surgery and Aesthetics Center, we are committed to helping women who have endometriosis live life to the fullest by minimizing their pain. Bethany Stahl, who is the author of the book “ Endometriosis: It's Not in Your Head, It's in Your Pelvis ” said, “ I am amongst a community of warriors.” She is 100 percent correct. Women who are living life with endometriosis experience internal battles many of us will never know. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was fabulous, busy and decidedly white.īlack women could buy dresses on 125th Street but weren’t allowed to try them on, and restaurants on the street would not serve blacks. There were high-fashion stores, such as A.S. In the ’20s and ’30s, this vibrant street attracted shoppers from all over the city. The area below 125th Street was predominantly white until the late 1930s.įrom early on, Harlem’s main business artery was 125th Street. ![]() ![]() The area between 125th and 140th became what we now consider black Harlem. Developers began to break the apartments up into smaller units and allow African Americans to rent them, beginning north of 125th Street. Some of America’s greatest architects, such as Sanford White, designed elegant homes in Harlem, and businesses quickly opened in the new trendy neighborhood. But Harlem’s higher-priced brownstones and apartment buildings attracted fewer people than expected. Harlem began in the 19th century as an upscale community for people who wanted gracious living but not Fifth Avenue prices. It is very interesting that the people of London Above don’t see or remember anyone of London Below. London Below is a place that belongs to various baronies and duchies and is littered with people, streets, trains and other things that have just been forgotten. Neverwhere is the original alternate London story. The alternate London trope in fantasy is a favourite (a post on this someday) and noone does it better than Neil Gaiman. ![]() When Richard is left with very little choice to go to this London Below, he is left with one option. There is a London with rat speakers, angels, vicious assasins and train stations that never existed. After saving the life of an injured young woman named Door, Richard is suddenly confronted with the fact that the London he knew is not the only London. Richard Mayhew’s life takes an unexpected turn after a small act of kindness. And I dragged reading this book out for an entire week. This book, is shockingly, the only Neil Gaiman book I have never read. Good evening and apologies for my absence! I have been work busy, a bit exhausted and had an impromptu weekend away which was well needed. But if this is all there is, then I don’t want to be sane.’ ![]() ![]() Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future. ![]() See, while Meena’s always been able to see everyone else’s future, she’s never been able look into her own.Īnd while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare. Maybe that’s why he’s the first guy Meena’s ever met that she could see herself having a future with. This is a pretty difficult book to summarise in one paragraph, so here’s my understanding of the six chapters:Ĭhapter 1: The Case for Nothing talks about how doing nothing has its benefits. ![]() One of the hosts mentioned that How to Do Nothing captured her feelings about social media pretty well, and it got me curious enough to read. I first heard this book from the Would Quitting Instagram Make You Happier episode of Why’d You Push That Button. ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s short and fast paced and the story is very hard to put down. ![]() Infinite Country was one of my last few reads in 2021 and it was a stellar one. ![]() But their decision to ignore exit dates costs them dearly when Mauro is caught one day and then deported. She and her husband Mauro arrived in the US for the short term to make some money to fend their growing family. Elena and her two older children weren’t always undocumented. Infinite Country tells the story of her family through the other protagonist, Elena (Talia’s mother), an undocumented immigrant in the US. As we follow Talia’s treacherous journey south, we learn about how she ended up in the reform school in the first place and why half her family resides in the US. Before she can do that, she needs to travel many miles to reach her father and get her ticket to the rest of her family. ![]() Infinite Country follows two characters - young Talia, who at the beginning of this book, escapes a girl’s reform school in North Colombia so that she can make her previously booked flight to the US. A nation at war with itself, yet people still spoke of it as some kind of paradise. What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy? The previous month, on its own soil, an American man went to his job at a plant and gunned down fourteen coworkers, and last spring alone there were four different school shootings. ![]() ![]() ![]() The second book was just as captivating as the first, maybe more so because it ended on an even more gut-wrenching cliffhanger. “The Wicked King” was a strong second novel, avoiding the often dreaded middle book problem: that it would be nothing but a link between books one and three. They are vicious and brutal, endlessly interesting. However, readers were captivated by the extravagance and the backstabbing in a world full of beings that cannot lie. “The Cruel Prince” had fans thrust into this world of Elfhame, full of magic, fairies and manipulation. The first two books in the series were very strong. This novel has been highly anticipated by fans of the series, but, rest assured, expectations were met. This novel wrapped up loose ends, while still surprising readers through stunning character growth all around.
